Biking through downtown

I was riding my bike through downtown during rush hour on a street with streetcar tracks. There were lots of cars and I was worried about getting my tire caught in the tracks or a streetcar coming so I got off and walked.

Then this girl zipped by riding right down the center of the tracks. I figured she knew what she was doing and that I'd be safe if I followed her.

But then when she stopped at the next red light, she fell off her bike.

Oregon Trail Day 4

Salt Lake City's main library branch.

On the East Coast and in the South, the built environment dominates the skyline. But out here you can't ignore nature. I guess that's why people in the West are so outdoorsy.

Remember that movie where they were running away from "The Nothing"? I think they were talking about Idaho.

Boise seems like a pretty cool town. I rode my bike around for a little bit since I had some extra time.

It's bicycle season again!

Today at the school zone near my house, the crossing guard stopped traffic so I could get through the intersection. It was cute.

Grocery Shopping

I've gotten in the habit of riding my bike to the grocery store and buying just what will fit in my backpack.

Waking up long-dormant alveoli

I've started riding my bike every day after barely touching it for a long time. Here in Nashville, I have to make a special point to do it. It's too far (and hilly) to ride to the store or to work or to a friend's house. But I've kept up with it for about a week. I'm so out of shape, it hurts even after a short ride. But I love it. I am so looking forward to fall! October is going to be great!

Bike

Since I've moved to Nashville, I think I've ridden my bike five times. This means that every time I do ride it, my lungs are very unhappy.


Ohhhhhhhh how I long for the days when I lived in a bikable city.... I will live in one again!!!

I've got a crush on Portland, Oregon

Someday I will live in Portland, Oregon and I will ride my bike everywhere. As I was taking a picture of this bike-friendly sign, a person happened to ride through the break in the median where bikes can go straight but cars can't.
