Colored Squares

Anne and I painted these cardboard squares and then put them up on her wall.

Hanging out with Anne in Charlottesville

Anne doesn't have a Facebook, so I'm going to make her one using this picture. Come to think of it, I don't have a Facebook.. somebody needs to make me one.
Update: Now we both have Facebook pages.
Update #2: Facebook is so stupid! How do I make it so I don't see everyone's tiny updates on my wall? Oh - someone I barely know said something to someone else I barely know. Why do people like this site?

Early Thanksgiving

Mom made an early Thanksgiving dinner since I have to fly back to Portland on the actual holiday. Anne came over to join us because she's a good sport.

Anne came to Nashville and then we drove to Richmond together!

We walked around Broadway the night she was in Nashville and saw all the crazy country people out for CMA Fanfare or whatever it's called.

We stopped at a flea market somewhere along the way to Richmond.

We did the crossword puzzle in the car.

And, of course, we stopped at Macado's in Salem for dinner and I, of course, got a Molly Brown, which is, of course, the best sandwich on the planet (excluding, of course, the entire menu at Harrison Street Coffee).

Richmond

Mom, Anne, and I got lunch at the Mediterranean Bakery - one of the few unique and locally-owned places in the suburbs.

Then I got to rip up this book so it could be recycled while cleaning at Mom's house.

I played at Rumors Boutique at night with Scott Burton and Cold Toast, pictured, who were like Animal Collective light. I mean that only as a description, I hope that doesn't sound jerky.

Owl print and a Big Gulp.

Charlottesville -> Chapel Hill -> Richmond

It snowed overnight while I was sleeping at the Tea Bazaar in Charlottesville...

...So I had to drive to Chapel Hill at 45 miles per hour. I hit some ice at one point and almost slid into the guard rail. But I ended up getting there safely.

Skylight Exchange is looking more like a junk store than I remember.

While driving I had fantasies of doing more long-term touring, but playing to empty rooms two nights in a row put an end to that kind of thinking.

After playing in Chapel Hill, I drove to Richmond and got a late night snack with Anne at 3rd Street Diner. We've known each other for 20 years.

Richmond...

You can see the tower from everywhere.

Emaleigh hides tapes from customers in Plan 9.

Anne loves coffee.

I used to have fantasies that the guy from Luxor would retire and leave his store to me. Not that I know anything about running a junky thrift store.

Mom has been cleaning her house.

Duckpin bowling is going downhill... the overhead projectors don't work anymore.

One time we witnessed a shooting as we were leaving Aladdin's.

Thanks, Matt.

Waffle House

The famous picture of Anne at the Waffle House in Staunton in 2004 before she cast off the country of her birth for a Peace Corps assignment (and later a "job" with the UN) in East Timor.
We had a turtle-shaped firework but we were too scared to blow it up in the parking lot in the middle of the day.
P.S. - Note the Murfreesboro shirt. That's a band I used to be in. There were a few shirts made. I'm sure not many have survived.
