Ryan Gryder taught me as much about playing bass as any bass teacher ever did. He was the first drummer I played with who asked questions about the bass parts and made sure we locked in together. When he joined the band in 1999, he was 30 and we were all 19 or younger. He didn't play with us for very long.

I was thinking about Ryan and how we did the band introductions this morning. When it came to my part, Ryan did a fill and then we went into 8 bars of "Iron Man." Good times!
