Drawings of Receipts

I keep receipts... why have I never thought of doing something like this?

Sullivan in Portland

On his way back to Nashville from a road trip to Alaska.
Portland pulled out all the stops for his visit: it rained for the first time in weeks today, people were filming something on the unusually packed streetcar, there seemed to be more bikes out than usual, and we talked to these people on the sidewalk who got caught in the rain and they were just as pleasant as could be about it.

Swallowing my pride. Starting somewhere. Paying my dues.

Self Portrait with Embossed Ghost

A similar theme will show up on my new recordings (which are unfortunately being held up a little).

It's going slower than I'd like, but I am writing and recording new songs

Sullivan, get that tape label ready for another release. That's right, not another submission, another release.

Found Photos on Display

I went to see a show of found photos at Floating World Comics. They said I could show some of mine when they do it again.

Trying to start playing shows again

I'm trying to get into playing shows here in Portland, but I don't know anybody so that makes it hard to book anything. So I swallowed my pride and checked out a few open mics.

Here was the scene at one:

And this was another one:

At both of them, I turned around and left as soon as I walked in.

Dj-ing

I answered a craigslist ad and DJ'ed an art show. I rocked it Middle Tennessee style, but it did not turn into a dance party.

Friendly... but not

This pedestrian overpass near my apartment is safe and convenient, but the razor wire maybe wasn't the friendliest decision Portland has ever made.

Dear Neighbors,

Other people have to use this washing machine, too. Maybe you should just do one load at a time.

Copies of copies of me

A preliminary step for the first project of the new school year.

Did anyone in the world not watch the inauguration?

Strange unfamiliar feeling rising in my gut... warming cold black lonely heart... undoing cynicism embedded from being a teenager in the '90s and from being alive for the last eight years... what can it be? Ohhhhhhh... pride in my country.

Tetris Attack = Yoshi's Time Waster

I downloaded the Super Nintendo game Tetris Attack (which has nothing to do with Tetris). My life is now over because that game is so addictive.

Recording New Songs

Through playing to a click, I discovered secret measures of 5/4 and 6/4 in the chorus of "A Group Thing" that I didn't realize were there. Take that, Geddy Lee - I can write nerdy technical music without even trying!

Cherbs comes home

My former co-worker Keith watched her while I was gone.

Arrived safely

Nobody messed with my car or my apartment while I was gone. Too bad nobody broke in to clean up for me. That seems like something a Portlander might do.

National Landmark Hats Fail

I thought this would work but you can see the sides of the capitol building sticking out.

Kendall didn't have much more luck lining up the Washington monument.

Matt and Kendall

I took the Metro down to Matt and Kendall's apartment in D.C. They are awesome, that map (a map of U.S. territories as of 1953) is awesome, and hanging out with them all weekend is awesome.

Dad's Pantry: Still Stocked

I took a train to see my Dad in D.C. Don't worry - the pantry is still fully stocked.

The Richmond - Nashville Connection

If you're going to record a proper version of "A Group Thing," you've got to get Laurel Lane to sing the female vocal part. Pretty convenient that she lives in Richmond now.

Mailing things to myself

I have to mail some things to myself in Portland because I'm taking back more than I came with.

Colored Squares

Anne and I painted these cardboard squares and then put them up on her wall.

Hanging out with Anne in Charlottesville

Anne doesn't have a Facebook, so I'm going to make her one using this picture. Come to think of it, I don't have a Facebook.. somebody needs to make me one.
Update: Now we both have Facebook pages.
Update #2: Facebook is so stupid! How do I make it so I don't see everyone's tiny updates on my wall? Oh - someone I barely know said something to someone else I barely know. Why do people like this site?
