Ryan Gryder

Ryan Gryder taught me as much about playing bass as any bass teacher ever did. He was the first drummer I played with who asked questions about the bass parts and made sure we locked in together. When he joined the band in 1999, he was 30 and we were all 19 or younger. He didn't play with us for very long.

Subbing

I substituted for a health class in these trailers once. We got through the lesson with lots of time to spare so I let the kids go outside and run around. That's why they called me the "fun sub." I'm sure if any of the administrators had found out about that, they'd call me something else.

Modern Atelier

This picture was published in Richmond Magazine last year as part of a story about Amy George's Modern Atelier homemade perfume business. She sells alot so it must be good, but I have to take her word for it because I can't smell.

Reservations about posting this photo:
1) I don't know this girl.. is it creepy to put a picture of her on my blog?
2) I wish there were more people in the foreground so it really felt like someone at a party. The room was pretty crowded, but it doesn't look like it here.
3) Those funny artifacts and blurs that are the result of strobe lights in the room.

The musical equipment got moved out in late 2001 when I left the band and transferred from VCU to MTSU. I would later return to Richmond and the band, but the days of practicing at Mom's house were over.

A relative died and Mom inherited all his stuff so her house became a storage facility.

I often regret that I didn't move out of my mom's house until I was 21. This room was a big reason as to why it took so long.

My Mom's house has a large open room on the 2nd floor. In high school it was turned into a recording space and band practice space. Mom had no say in this.
