They are cutting out a part of the curb to open up a new entrance into my neighborhood. It will be good for traffic and way more convenient, but I'll be sad to no longer live in the most difficult neighborhood to figure out how to drive into ever.

That's what you get for living in the City That Works. If something that doesn't work comes to their attention, they are morally obligated to fix it.
